In recent years, some companies have encountered some problems in compensating trade with foreign investors and are worthy of attention. For example, a steel plant in Hunan Province conducted compensation trade cooperation with Hong Kong Sanxiang Co., Ltd. in 1988. The Hong Kong side provided foreign exchange of 12.6 million U.S. dollars and imported 300,000 tons of electric furnace steelmaking used equipment from France for a compensation period of five years. The contract stipulated that steel products should be used for compensation year by year in 1989. Actually, this equipment will not be available until 1991.
