现代化作为一个世界历史进程,反应人类社会从传统农业社会向现代工业社会所经历的巨变。这一过程开始于西欧,早期西方国家的现代化是一个内在、自发的过程,而中国则是在西方冲击和现代化国际环境影响下诱发导致的。二十世纪30年代,中国处于一个急需变革的时期,而现代化就成为了这一变革的目标。由于当时特殊的历史背景,当时国人对现代化的讨论与今天对经济现代化的认识不尽相同。这次讨论反映了当时国人的思想状态。
As a world historical process, modernization reflects the tremendous changes human society has experienced from the traditional agricultural society to the modern industrial society. The process started in Western Europe. The early modernization of the West was an internal and spontaneous process, while China was induced by the impact of the West and the international environment of modernization. In the 1930s, China was in a much-needed period of change, and modernization was the goal of this revolution. Due to the special historical background of the time, the people’s discussion of modernization at that time was not the same as today’s understanding of economic modernization. This discussion reflected the mentality of the people of that time.
