馕是新疆地区少数民族的传统主食,习惯上用馕坑烤制。烤馕时,妇女们在40—50℃的坑旁工作,条件很艰苦,耗薪柴也多(每炉需用柴60斤)。新疆太阳能研究所最近研制成的太阳能烤馕灶给妇女们带来了福音。烤馕灶采用硫化铅涂层和远红外辐射涂层提高了灶的热效率,从春分到秋分季节,每40分钟左右可烤一箱(干面粉2公斤制成8个馕),也可烤制包子、面包、饼干等食品。
