1984年8—9月,在湖北鄂州市科协、市宣传部联合举办的科普一条街竞赛活动中,该市百货公司所属的中心百货商店围绕如何普及、宣传科学技术知识做文章,联系本店实际,使大、小九个橱窗的设计不仅新颖、别致,而且更富有科学性和知识性。店内开辟了一个综合性的商品科普知识专柜;钟表、布匹、五金等十四个经营柜都设有商品科普知识牌,共书写、宣传商品达二十多种。诸如:防磁手表可以接触磁场吗?家用洗衣机的使用及其养护知识;人造纤维织物
