Cytokines bind to the corresponding receptors, triggering a cascade of intracellular signal molecules, whereas SOCS negatively regulates the JAK STATs signaling pathway of cytokines, and the direct targets of SOCS proteins are different. On the other hand, STATs can bind to the regulatory sequences of SOCS gene and regulate the expression of SOCS gene.
