Preface A recent survey of the effects of zero and -G exposure to + Gz (see Related Background Digest) led to an initial study using a three-axis Dynamic Environmental Simulator (DES) at Wright-Patterson AFB. The purpose of the study was to test the feasibility of using a ground-based centrifuge with powered cockpit to generate the corresponding negative or positive Gz profiles and measure cardiovascular and visual effects. Method DES used a set of open-loop G profiles routinely providing a 5-s baseline exposure ranging from + 1.4Gz to -2Gz (decreasing at 0.5 G / s) followed by rapid transition to + G levels ranging from +2 Gz to +5 Gz (In increments of 0.5 G / s), volunteer subjects were confined in a radially facing seat inside the cabin, subjected to the + Gx direction
