  Charm Forever: Culture of Dream of the Red Chamber
  December 20, 2019 – March 20, 2020 National Museum of China, Beijing
  The Chinese classical novel Dream of the Red Chamber is a literary masterpiece and a treasure of human civilization. It vividly describes society, customs, families, opera, calligraphy and painting while at the same time cultivating unique wisdom, grandeur, charm and even its own culture that is deeply integrated into the national spirit of the Chinese people.
  This exhibition features nearly 600 sets of cultural relics, documents and artworks related to the novel, evidencing the status of the literary masterpiece in Chinese culture from the perspectives of literary origin, background, cultural exchange and far-reaching influence. It also shines light on the impact of the book on Chinese culture.


  13th National Exhibition of Fine Arts
  December 20, 2019 – January 14, 2020 National Art Museum of China, Beijing


  This exhibition presents a total of 573 works covering a variety of forms such as traditional Chinese painting, oil painting, industrial design and crafts, including 37 award-winning works from the third Chinese Fine Art Awards.
  The pieces show figures such as firefighters, urban youth and scientific researchers. They also display social scenes including rural e-commerce, high-speed railways and historical scenes of Chinese revolution such as the founding of the Communist Party of China and its revolutionary work in Yan’an. The works capture iconic images of China’s development and depict contemporary times in an artistic manner. They trace the profound changes in society and demonstrate Chinese aesthetic style.
  Voluntary Garden
  December 12, 2019 – March 1, 2020 Ullens Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing
  Voluntary Garden is a live multimedia art project. Contemporary artist Colin Siyuan Chinnery invited 39 musicians to improvise music ranging from traditional Chinese folk music to jazz, rock, electronic and avant-garde experimental music. Classical gardens in Suzhou were chosen as performance venues. The project shines light on the creativity of contemporary Chinese music. The artist recorded live performances of all musicians with video and audio.
  Colin Siyuan Chinnery lives and works in Beijing. He graduated from the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London in 1997. He worked at the British Library from 1998 to 2002. Since returning to China in 2002, he has worked as an artist and curator in shows in China, Europe and the United States.
  Move on China 2019
  December 12, 2019 – March 15, 2020 HOW Art Museum, Shanghai
  Since the late 1980s, contemporary artists Feng Mengbo, Wang Jianwei and Zhang Peili have been engaged in many exploratory and forward-looking artistic practices using new forms of media such as TV, computer, video and video games, making great contributions to the development of digital contemporary art in China.
  This exhibition displays 17 novel and experimental works by the three artists, including interactive installations, video and theater performances, and video and music performances, through which they discuss new media’s impact on the world and daily life.
