公安部上海消防研究所成立于1965年,是公安部直属的专业技术警察单位,也是以消防部队装备技术研究为核心的多学科、多种类的综合型公益性研究机构。该所集政府决策咨询、法规标准制订、产品质量监督检验、火灾科学研究、消防高新技术开发和应用于一体,主要承担全国公安消防部队装备新技术研究和高层建筑、地下工程、石油化工、能源交通等领域消防装备新技术的研究、开发,以及承担国家消防装备产品的质量监督检验任务。科研力量雄厚,实验及检验设施先进,经过40多年的发展取得显著的社会和经济效益,在国内外享有一定声誉。
