相对于那些一夜走红,成为媒体、观众热门话题的电视剧而言,日本舞台剧在观众的量和影响上都明显不如前者,即便是极富影响力的剧作家的作品或人气正旺的剧团的演出。但戏剧在日本并不寂寞,甚至应该说演事极盛。剧作家平田居左(该作家名本为日文假名,汉字为笔者所加,下同)称在他经营的剧场的电脑里,收录了1700多个剧团。据估计全日本剧团的实际数量有3000甚或5000。这些剧团既有职业剧团,也有非职业性的爱美剧团。由这些剧团所作的影响或大或小的演出(此外还有相当多的外国剧团来日演出),戏剧节,各种奖项的评比,不同剧种的联手,应有尽有,仔细看来好不热闹。事实上,以首都东京为例,你在电脑上输入某一日期查询公演信息的话,会发现有相当多的戏可供你选择。而一些受欢迎的公演,有时提前很多时间票就被预订光了。
