Cholesterol: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Most “Injuries ” A number of studies have shown that elevated cholesterol is an important risk factor leading to atherosclerosis, coronary heart disease, myocardial infarction, stroke and other cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. The higher cholesterol, the greater the risk of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events. According to a large study, from 1984 to 1997, cholesterol levels increased by 1 mmol / L in residents of a certain region as lifestyles changed, and cholesterol levels increased by 77% of the total risk factors for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events %. It can be said that the increase of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events is mainly caused by elevated cholesterol.
