上世纪六十年代后期,《黄河大合唱》由殷承宗、储望华、刘庄、盛礼洪、石叔诚和许斐星等六人改编为钢琴协奏曲《黄河》。《黄河》钢琴协奏曲在创作中运用了西洋古典钢琴协奏曲的表现手法,以标题性组曲的形式写成,在曲式结构上又融入了船夫号子等中国民间传统的音乐元素。不仅在当时的国内引起了强烈的反响,还因为其史诗的结构、华丽的技巧、丰富的层次和壮阔的意境,成为世界音乐史上最为著名的一首中国协奏曲,同时也在世界范围内的音乐会舞台上得以经常演出。
