旅行记资料是文献资料的一个重要方面,不可忽视。笔者自1984年起查阅地方史志资料的实践,深切感到,在新疆,应该充分地利用各种有关新疆的旅行记或考察记(以下简称为旅行记)。因为由古及今,行记资料不仅异常丰富,无所不包,而且比较系统、真实性强。这是修志工作中所不可忽视的。 一、旅行记的重要性 1、历史的传统。清代学者都十分注意收集行记。清代王锡祺在光绪十七至二十三年(1891—1897)所编《小方壶舆地丛钞》(包括补编、再补编)曾收集了洪亮吉《伊犁日记》,方士淦《东归日记》等十余种。光绪二十年(1894),同康主人编《中外舆地图说集成》一百三十卷,其中卷二十一收录了方观承《从军杂记》,卷二十六有林则徐《荷戈纪程》倭仁《莎车行记》,卷二十七有洪亮吉《天山客话》等。 民国九年(1920),吴兴王文濡编成《新游记汇刊》,卷三十三收录了《新疆风土记》、《伊犁旅行记》,卷四十五单骑《西征日记》,并在序言中称此书“继小方壶斋舆地丛钞》而作,力避重复所选为民国及清季之文。”其《新游记汇刊续编》卷二十六收有耐道人《阿尔泰山附近情形》,卷三十七有刘雨沛《西戍途中日记》等篇。
