“敦,大地之意,煌,繁盛也。”(《汉书·地理志》)敦煌,位于甘肃省西部偏南,前有阳关,后有玉门,南枕祁连,襟带西域,是古丝绸之路的咽喉。 20世纪40年代,被誉为“敦煌艺术保护神”的常书鸿来到饱受创伤的敦煌莫高窟,在异常艰苦的条件下成立了敦煌艺术研究所(1984年扩建为敦煌研究院),对莫高窟进行清理和保护。随后来了段文杰。然后又来了一个有些腼腆的柔弱女子——樊锦诗。
