Mutations can lead to changes in one or more of the traits of cultivated crops. A mutation-based improvement of plant quality will greatly facilitate the development of the fruit tree industry. Traditional methods of inducing mutations applied to fruit trees are often limited by the source of the explants and take a considerable amount of time and space. Somatic mutation combined with physico-chemical mutagenesis can be considered as a means of improving fruit tree crops and has been successful in some fruit tree crops. This gives us reason to believe that in vitro induction of variation is a very effective potential pathway to improve the quality and resilience of fruit trees. This article discusses a large number of examples and research progress on the integrated use of mutation induction, variant selection, field evaluation methods and other related to fruit tree cultivation.
