作者对DMSO等14种溶剂进行了毒性及影响致突变性测试的研究。14种溶剂包括:二甲亚砜(DMSO);酰胺类——N,N-二甲替甲酰胺(DMF)、甲酰胺、1-甲基-2-吡咯烷酮(1 M 2 P);腈类——乙腈;酮类——丙酮;烃类——环己烷;醚类——对-二恶烷、乙二醇二甲醚(EGDE)、四氢呋喃(THF);醇类——乙醇;羟基醚类——甲醛缩甘油、四氢糠醇(THFA)、苯氧基乙醇。这些溶剂的溶解能力和对活性烷化剂与酰化剂的惰性亦不同,烃类及醚类属高度惰性,酮类,腈类及酰胺类有相对惰性,而乙醇及羟基醚则具有活性。

The 14 solvents include: dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO); amides - N, N-dimethylformamide (DMF), formamide, 1-methyl-2-pyrrolidone - Acetonitrile; Ketones - Acetone; Hydrocarbons - Cyclohexane; Ethers - p-dioxane; Ethylene glycol dimethyl ether (EGDE); Tetrahydrofuran Ethers - formalin, tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol (THFA), phenoxyethanol. Solubility of these solvents and the inertness of the active alkylating agents and acylating agents are also different, hydrocarbons and ethers are highly inert, ketones, nitriles and amides are relatively inert, while alcohols and hydroxy ethers are active.
