The 16th International Congress of Speleology (ICS) was held in the Czech Republic from July 21 to 29, 2013. The conference covered the history of caves and karst research, cave biology, cave investigation and development and environmental protection, karst climate and Paleoclimatic records, karst genesis and so on. Some current highlights of scientific and technological innovation in karst caves include karst caves microbes, paleo-hydrological reconstruction of caves, Hypogene karst, POS and sea level change, caves Climatic and paleoclimatic records, geochemical migration of strontium (Sr), the development of cave protection concepts, the formation of carbonate secondary sediments in non-carbonate caves and paleoclimatic records, cave fog circulation, glaciers Regional karst cave formation mechanism and so on. Through the participation of the General Assembly, I realized that the following problems still exist in the related research in China at present: First, there are fewer cave expeditions in China and no scale is formed, which is not conducive to the popularization of karst scientific knowledge; at the same time, the research scope of Chinese karst cave researchers is basically Confined to the surface or proven caverns, and some are good at caving, which greatly limits the discovery of cave science and the development of research work, is a major shortcoming in the field of karst research in China. Second, there is still a long way to go when exploring the physical, chemical, biological mechanisms and research techniques of karst morphology development in China. ICS is a major stage for exchange between karst cave researchers in various countries in the world. Submission of results, oral report boards, exhibition booths and extensive participation in the activities are important ways to show the achievements of research on karst cave science in China, and to study its level and strength and enhance its international influence. However, Chinese scholars did not pay enough attention to this conference because of their lack of research results, small reports on oral report panels and lack of booths. This is incompatible with the status quo of China's abundant karst resources. It is suggested that the vast majority of karst cave researchers in China should be well prepared to actively participate in the 17th ICS in 2017 and strive to make major breakthroughs in order to establish the image of a karst power and a strong nation in China.
