The 2010 general election is the sixth general election since Brazil democratized in the mid-1980s. Relying on the excellent performance of the Lula government, the ruling coalition won the election and its candidate Rousseff was elected president. The ruling coalition expanded its seat in both the Senate and Senate, and the governorship it controls also surpassed the opposition coalition. The election further shows that political parties with a middle and left-wing position have become the dominant force in Brazil’s political arena. The role of the Labor Party and the Brazilian Social Democratic Party in the pattern of political parties in Brazil has become increasingly prominent.
