This article discusses the effectiveness of modern state-of-the-art digital refrigeration controllers in modern supermarket cooling systems. The controller is manufactured and marketed by Computer Process Control (CPC) Inc. and is named E2. The controllers are designed to provide precise temperature control of refrigerated goods while minimizing the energy and maintenance costs of the refrigeration system. E2 controllers and their predecessor products have been used in supermarkets in the United States and around the world for over 20 years. The results presented here are based on theoretical analysis using a well-established refrigeration cycle model developed by EMERSON and include information on energy savings and product loss accumulated by CPC users since the controller was introduced to the supermarket .
