In 1993, a wave of personal communicators or personal digital assistants (PDAs) was launched in the United States under the leadership of Apple Computer. Companies such as AT&T, IBM, Motorola, Casio, Sony, and Compaq were involved in this wave. The personal communicator is actually a multi-purpose handheld communication terminal. It can not only make phone calls, but also send faxes and send data. The first personal communicator launched by Apple is called Newton MessagePad. The price is between 699 and 949 US dollars. After the launch, Apple had confidently prepared a large number of newton technology licensing contracts because at that time more than 20 companies had expressed willingness to produce such products. Soon after AT&T acquired the EO company also launched a personal communicator called the EO 440. Based on a 32-bit, 20MHz system called the Hobbit microprocessor and the operating system called PenPoint. It is a major improvement over Newton that can communicate wirelessly and can be used for cellular telephony.
