Atmospheric changes (such as climate anomalies) on a global scale are closely related to large-scale changes in the oceans and seas, and technological advances are playing more and more important roles in forecasting ocean changes. The Japan Marine Science and Technology Center has been researching and developing measuring equipment that can detect and track changes in the ocean in three dimensions and measure them accurately. Two of these measuring devices are used to determine water temperature, salinity and depth, one from the airplane into the sea and the other from a ship.
