照片上正在签字的女士名叫吴贻芳(1893—1985),号冬生,曾用名Constance,是我国杰出的教育家、社会活动家。这是她在《联合国宪章》上签字的场景,她是在《联合国宪章》上签字的第一位女性。吴贻芳出身书香门第,但经历却很悲惨。她最初和姐姐吴贻芬在杭州弘道女子学堂求学,后来,又辗转他校,接受新式教育。1909年,吴贻芳的父亲因受奸人所害而跳江自尽,吴贻芳姐妹被迫辍学。之后,其兄也被迫自尽,母亲因受打击而重病身亡,姐姐也悬梁自尽。家庭连遭不幸,她和妹妹及七旬的祖母被二姨夫陈疏通收养。
