This article addresses a new EEC solution that is not constrained by other “traditional” EEC solutions and has some unique design advantages. Cover Folding EEC (SLEEC) consists of a number of inner and outer covers made of ablative material or carbon-carbon material. These covers overlap with each other and fit tightly around the exit cone of the nozzle, resulting in a much smaller collection volume. The actuation system consists of synchronized axial and radial drives that provide both extension and radial expansion at the same time as the reaction forces cause axial and hoop loads. As a result, the cone is expanded and expanded to make the cone a truly variable device for the inflatable surface, allowing for optimal height compensation at the rocket motor’s acceleration stage. The performance of different SLEEC applications was compared.
