Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus is the most common pathogen in ocular infections. A microbiological survey conducted in various parts of Egypt showed that vancomycin (VCM) had the highest antibacterial activity against this bacterium. However, due to the relatively large molecular weight and hydrophobicity of VCM, the bioavailability of the eye is very low.
