To date, there have been few reports of the timing of mother-to-child transmission of hepatitis C and no effective means of reducing the rate of transmission. The authors studied the effect of various risk factors, including modes of delivery, on the vertical transmission of maternal and child. Data for assessing the rate of mother-infant vertical transmission and its risk factors were obtained from three Hepatitis C virus-infected mothers and their infants in three Irish hospitals and from a British pediatric custody unit that investigated infants born to hepatitis C virus-infected mothers.
