通过１０年的综合治理，川掌沟的水土流失得到了有效控制，人均产粮５００多ｋｇ，比治理前增加１０２％，人均收入由６５ｊ增加到１０００元，生产条件和生态环境得到改善。其突出的经验是：以开发促治理，把单纯的防护型治理转变为效益型开发性治理，以效益增强治理后劲。前５年采取自下而上的治理顺序，首先控制泥沙下泄，增加基本农田，使群众尽快受益。后５年自上而下地治理梁峁－坡－沟，大力退耕还林还草，发展经果林，使群众从始到终年年受益，从而激发了群众的治理积极性，从根本上控制了水土流失。
