Norway has a long history of raising salmon species and in order to produce first-term salmon in the cold season, the water must be warmed up. However, only by using heat exchangers and heat pumps to recycle farming water can heating costs be reduced to a relatively economical level. Reclaimed water systems are also recommended for seedling farms with limited water resources or poor water quality. Some recirculating aquaculture systems have been established in Norway and some seed farms have benefited from the use of such systems.
