Objective: To investigate the endothelial function in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and cerebrovascular disease. Methods: Circulating endothelial cells (CECs) were used as indicators of vascular endothelial cell (VEC) injury. Plasma endothelin (ET 1) and nitric oxide (NO) were used as markers of VEC functional changes. The CEC was detected by Hlandove method, the level of plasma ET was determined by radioimmunoassay, and the level of NO was determined by colorimetry. Results: The levels of CEC and plasma ET in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus complicated with cerebrovascular disease were significantly higher than those in normal controls (P <0.01), while the level of NO was significantly decreased. CEC was positively correlated with ET level, Significant negative correlation. Conclusion: Endothelial dysfunction in type 2 diabetic patients with cerebrovascular disease is severely impaired.
