渭河地区新生代地层十分发育,前人做了大量工作,但详细的地层划分一直存在不同认识。随着近些年渭河地区研究工作的不断进展,结合前人已有的成果,通过大量野外剖面实测及室内资料的汇总,对渭河地区新生代地层做了归纳,划分如下:古近系始新统红河组;渐新统白鹿塬组;新近系中新统冷水沟组、寇家村组、灞河组;上新统游河组;第四系更新统三门组、泄湖组、乾县组及全新统半坡组。渭河地区由始新世开始沉积,早期气候比较炎热干燥,渐新世逐渐变得温暖湿润,至渐新世晚期气候干冷;中新世早期湖泊广布,环境相对湿润,晚期逐渐变得干暖,但依然存在干冷环境;上新世整体比较温暖湿润,但后期气候逐渐转凉;至第四纪随着冰期到来,整体气候显著变冷、变干,半湿润半干旱气候形成。
The Cenozoic strata in the Weihe area have developed very well, and many predecessors did a great deal of work. However, there have been different understandings of detailed stratigraphic division. With the continuous development of research work in the Weihe area in recent years, taking into account the existing achievements of predecessors, a large number of field profiles and summary of indoor data are used to summarize the Cenozoic strata in the Weihe River. They are divided as follows: Tonglihe Formation, Oligocene Bailuyuan Formation, Miocene Lengshuigou Formation, Koujiacun Formation and Tahe Formation, Upper Pleistocene Pleione, Quaternary Pleistocene System, Ganxian County and the whole new system Banpo group. The Weihe area began to sediment from the Eocene. The early climate became hot and dry, and gradually became warm and humid in the Oligocene. The climate was dry and cold in the late Oligocene. In the early Miocene, the lake was relatively humid and the environment became relatively humid, , But the dry and cold environment still exists. The Pliocene is warm and humid as a whole, but the later climate gradually turns cooler. In the Quaternary, with the onset of the ice age, the whole climate became significantly cooler and drier, forming a semi-humid and semi-arid climate.
