On October 29, 2008, the heads of state and representatives from 26 countries in the three regional organizations of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), COMESA and the East African Community (EAC) held their summit in Kampala, the capital of Uganda . The participating countries decided to create a free trade zone that includes 26 countries in the above regions. Its purpose is to find solutions to market access in the region and to a number of countries belonging to different regional organizations
