Medieval England Sorkman originated in the Danish conquest, its ancestors should be at least followers of the Danish conquerors, mainly in the Danish law. During the Anglo-Saxon period, Saukman subordinated to Thain, taking precedence over the Kerr, assuming military obligations and later converting to serving only agriculture. After Norman conquest, it divided into two categories, one categorized as common tenant under the common law, and the other as an intermediate class holder of land between Saukman, Vilan and free-land peasants. The latter is also divided, some bear monetary rent, and some even take laborer rent, but the burden is much lighter than the local Vilan. But on the whole, Saukman is a free farmer protected by law. With the dissolution of the feudal system in the late Middle Ages and early modern times, the distinction between Saukmann and other peasants in the United Kingdom ceased to exist.
