绅士是中国封建社会中具有较强活动能力的社会阶层,构成我国封建统治的社会基础,在封建社会的舞台上发挥着重要作用。清末民初是一个复杂多变的多元化时代,绅士群体出现了激烈的分化,逐渐走向蜕化,绅士在政治、经济、思想文化等方面发挥着不同的作用,同时引起社会教化功能丧失、政治权利衰落、乡村社会衰败等负面影响。绅士这一特殊的社会群体,在社会剧变的时代下发生蜕化,并对中国社会的整体发展产生影响。
