2006年11月8日,举世瞩目的世界卫生组织总干事(简称世卫总干事)选举在瑞士日内瓦揭盅,中国代表、香港的陈冯富珍女士获得逾七成执委支持,高票当选。陈太是香港首位女卫生署署长,首位进入世界卫生组织的香港公务员,首位获中国政府推荐竞逐联合国组织最高领导人的竞选人。这次,她又成为第一位当选联合国组织最高领导人的中国人,温家宝为她拉选票、吴仪向她面授机宜、唐家璇表示中央政府全力支持她……
On November 8, 2006, the world-renowned director general of the World Health Organization (WHO for short) won the election in Geneva, Switzerland. The representative of China, Mrs. Margaret Chan of Hong Kong, won over 70% of the executive board votes and was elected by votes. Mrs Chan is the first director of the Hong Kong Women’s Health Department, the first Hong Kong civil servant to enter the World Health Organization and the first candidate to be recommended by the Chinese government to compete for supremacy among the top UN organizations. This time, she became the first Chinese elected to be the supreme leader of the UN organization. Wen Jiabao won the vote for her and Wu Yi gave her the opportunity to give her a hand.
