乙亥岁末,香港理工大学人文学部卢淑樱小姐为学位论文第二次来京垂询民初至抗战前夕出版界史事。同行有殷嘉慧小姐。正题谈毕,两位又提到编辑学中的孔子。作了些回答,录以就教方家,以引玉。 问:大陆有编辑学的研究,有说孔子是编辑家的。您认为这样说对吗? 答:二位“突然袭击”。我对编辑学又不很关心,一起探究吧。 十年来是有很多文章、工具书中这么提。问题不是对不对。只要有充分的可靠的材料,从逻辑上讲得通就可以。但是至今见到的,仅仅是重复一些没有论证的结论。也有引经据典的,但可惜,引的都是汉代迄晋的。如《史记》、《孔子家语》、《尚书·序》里几句话。不出这三本书。这些书都是汉代尊儒后的作品,就有靠不住的东西。所引用的话都是在《论语》里找不到影子的事,或《论语》里有点影子而被拔高了的。《史记》是部伟大作品。但“《史记》采众说成书,不免抵牾。至其叙述之罅漏,先儒往往驳正”(《四库全书总目》)。《孔子家语》现在能见到的是王肃注本,是部托名孔安国的伪书:“王柏家语考曰,四十四篇之家语, At the end of last year of Beihai, Miss Lu Shuying, the humanities department of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, came to Beijing for the second time to consult the publishing world affairs before the Anti-Japanese War.
