应美国田纳西州橡树岭联合大学(ORAU)医学和保健科学部放射事故救援及训练中心(REAC/TS)的邀请,我国代表叶根耀、姚家祥出席了1988年10月20～22日由美国能源部主办、在ORAU召开的第二届国际放射事故医疗基础与处理会议.出席会议的共200余人,来自我国、苏联、巴西、法国、英国等18个国家.C.C.Lushbaugh统计复习了1944～1988年3月世界各地放射事故,据不完全统计,全身照射≥25rem,局部照射≥600rem者达24853名,造成69名死亡(苏联切尔诺贝利核反应堆事故死亡28例,巴西铯-137事故死亡4例).急性全身照射事故临床报告有挪威1982年~(60)Co事故;法国2例连续照射事故;苏联1986年切尔诺贝利核反应堆事故;巴西1987年Cs-137事故.我国代表叶根耀在会上报告1979年以来4起放射事故.与会人员与记者对苏联、巴西和我国的放射事故感兴趣,在报纸上报道了简况,还有报纸以中草药对抗原子为题,谈论了我国事故中所用的中草药抗辐射药.美国西雅图骨髓移植中心RStorb报道了实验狗大剂量全身照射时骨髓移植的作用.
