For a very large city beyond the reach of buses, urban rail transit (including metro and light rail) is considered the ideal solution. As for Beijing, China’s capital, the situation is even more so. Beijing Urban Railway plans to open four urban rail lines ahead of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, each with a communication system and interoperability between the four systems for resource sharing. Given the scale of this project, Beijing Metro must look for a long-term strategic partner. Under the ambitious plan of public transport construction in the next few years, Beijing Metropolitan City Railways also hopes to adopt an advanced communications network that enables them to share valuable resources - not only based on an open standards architecture but also broad coverage, And strong interoperability has become its top priority.
