词汇是语言的三要素之一(另有语音、语法)。在英语学习中,词汇教学质量的好坏、单词掌握的多少,关系到学生外语能力的运用和发展,直接影响学生的语言输入量。一般来说,阅读水平的高低取决于学生阅读基础的强弱。阅读基础主要指:(1)词汇量和语法知识;(2)相关的背景知识;(3)正确的阅读方法和技巧。没有词汇,一切都成了无源之水,无本之木。因此词汇能力在基础教育阶段最为重要,它是阅读训练的前提条件。学生词汇量不达标(高考要求2000词左右)是当前阅读训练效率低的主要原因之一。从近三年NMET阅读理解题字数及答题参考时间的统计数据可知(1998年为1915词,
Vocabulary is one of the three elements of language (in addition to speech, grammar). In English learning, vocabulary teaching quality is good or bad, the number of words to master, relates to the use and development of students ’foreign language ability, directly affects the students’ language input. In general, the level of reading depends on the strength of students to read the foundation. Basis of reading mainly refers to: (1) vocabulary and grammar knowledge; (2) the relevant background knowledge; (3) the correct reading methods and techniques. Without words, everything has become a passive water, no wood. Therefore, the vocabulary ability in the elementary education stage is the most important, it is a prerequisite for reading training. Students vocabulary is not standard (college entrance examination requires about 2,000 words) is one of the main reasons for the current reading training inefficiency.
