In middle school Chinese teaching, how modern poetry teaching achieves high efficiency has always been a topic that everyone thinks is difficult. Indeed, the current situation in modern poetry is not optimistic. Based on this, this article intends to introduce new criticism theory and its reading method to try to solve this problem. The new theory of criticism holds that literary works are not only media to convey feelings, but also independent things with distinctive personalities. Literary creation as a kind of information transmission activities, involving the author, works and readers three links. We should attach importance to the intermediate part of the work and separate it from the relationship with the author and the reader. Wim Sutter, a critique of the new criticism, believes that the author’s subjective intent can not always be through the work,
