航空运输同其他运输方式相比是比较年轻的行业,它的兴起是近代科学技术和社会生活发展到一定阶段的结果。新中国建立前夕,中国的航空运输业发展极其落后,航线少、规模小、运量低。新中国建立后,作为共和国总理的周恩来非常关注中国航空运输业的发展,并为此付出了大量心血。在他的高度重视和具体指导下,新中国政府不仅完善了民航组织,培养了航空人才,开辟了边远航线,而且使中国民航飞向世界,加强了对外联系与合作,搭建了中国与世界各国人民友谊的桥梁,为新中国航空运输业的发展做出了杰出贡献。
