最近两三年,梁其姿教授好几次同我谈起何炳棣先生有意到香港访问一段时间的安排。开始,我们计划在何先生访问香港期间,请先生到中山大学做一次讲座。2010年那次,我们把细节都商量好了,后来何先生到了北京后就直接去台北出席“中研院”院士会,没能到香港。去年,梁其姿教授告诉我,她正在筹划何先生今年再到香港小住一段,其间拟在香港大学安排讲座,这时,我们知道何先生身体已经不如前,不便旅途周折,便设想在何先生到香港时,带中山大学所有明清史的学生专程前往香港聆教。一切已在安排中,学生们亦都翘首以待,到今年初,得知何先生因体力原因,香港之行的计划也取消了,我正为失去了再度聆教席侧的机会而遗憾,没想到不久竟传来了先生驾鹤西去的消息,愕然哀痛之中,6年前晋谒先生之情景一再在脑海中浮现。

Earlier this year, I learned that Mr. Ho was canceled due to physical reasons and that I was regretful that I missed the opportunity to revisit the side of the school. I did not expect that soon came the message of Mr. Crane Hexi, stunned sorrow, 6 years ago, Mr. King scene repeatedly emerged in my mind.
