长江中下游港口建设的特点除水位差大(8~15米),硬卧层埋藏较深外,从航道方面来讲,主要是担负国内城乡物资交流,在通用港口中船型不一,货种繁杂,大宗货物少,车船直接转运量仅占年吞吐量10~20%。因此在港口建设中,平面布置、装卸工艺、码头结构型式都应考虑港口的通用性。
