Platinum and palladium are generally in the form of metal in the ore, and the grade is very low, which is below the lower limit of the spectral sensitivity. Therefore, it is impossible to determine these two elements directly from the ore by spectroscopic method. With the requisite sensitivities and homogeneities, it is a practical way for the ore to be chemically concentrated in advance. The use of coprecipitants such as mercury and copper sulphide can completely and conveniently separate platinum and palladium from the solution for the purpose of concentration In this way, the spectral analysis of the resulting concentrate after chemical treatment not only affords sufficient analytical sensitivity, but also simplifies the composition of the analytical sample, thereby reducing the influence of the third element and improving the analysis accuracy.
