~(60)Co辐射源在衰变过程中放射出的γ射线应用于中草药、中成药、医疗器材等方面的灭菌、杀虫,是继热消毒等传统方法之后又一新的有效方法。它的优点:(1)辐射灭菌、杀虫可在常温下进行;(2)由于γ射线穿透力强,产品可在有包装条件下处理;(3)方法简易,不留残留物;(4)省工省能源。目前辐射灭菌、杀虫方法在国际上已被认为是辐射应用重要组成部分。我国许多省市从1958年起已陆续开展辐射保藏食品和医用品(包括药物)、辐射灭菌杀虫等方面的研究,尤其是近年来在我国中草药、中成药和医用器材等工业品对外贸易不断扩大中,往往碰到霉变和细菌数超出允许标准的问题无法解决,这就更进一步促进了我国许多省市开展这方面
