为庆祝中国共产党诞生四十周年,对广大群众进行艰苦奋斗,发愤图强的传统教育,天津市历史博物馆将原有的陈列进行了修改和调整。于七月一日正式开放。陈列内容,以革命史为主,其中又以新民主主义革命为中心。在旧民主主义陈列中,以人民大众反对帝国主义和反对封建主义的斗争为主线,重点地陈列了作为十九世纪六十年代到七十年代全国人民反洋教斗争高潮的天津教案以及中国近代史上规模最大的反帝斗争——义和团运动。
