在世界上最大的飞机城美国西雅图,活跃着一批华人科学家.他们为世界航空业和中美科技合作作出了不可磨灭的贡献。其中具有美国波音公司“活字典”之称的飞机设计师,美国中国工程师协会发起人兼理事田长焯先生就是一位典型的代表。不久前,笔者在汉采访了田先生,他以其亲身经历,讲述了华人在美艰难奋斗的历程。飞机设计师原来学土木田先生祖籍湖北黄陂,1928年生于汉口,上海圣约翰大学毕业。其父亲田永廉早年与有国民党能吏之称的吴国桢谋旧长达二十多年,吴任汉口市长时,他是税捐稽征处长,吴在上海任市长,又聘他出任上海市财政局长,吴到台湾任台湾省政府主席,再请他任省政府主任秘书。
In Seattle, the largest aircraft city in the world, there are a number of Chinese scientists active, making an indelible contribution to the world aviation industry and the scientific and technological cooperation between China and the United States. In his early years, his father, Tian Yonglian, had spent more than 20 years with Wu Guochen, who was known as the KMT’s official. When Wu Ren was the mayor of Hankou, he was director of tax collection and detention. Wu was appointed mayor of Shanghai and hired him as Shanghai City Finance Minister, Wu to Taiwan as the chairman of the Taiwan Provincial Government, and then asked him to become the provincial government chief secretary.
