1986年4月26日凌晨1时23分,苏联基辅附近的切尔诺贝利核电站石墨反应堆发生严重事故,一个反应堆燃烧熔化后爆炸起火。事故中有31人遇难,299人送进医院治疗,有22万人因辐射不适症状而接受医学检查。事故发生后,苏联把出事地点附近的大批人员进行了转移,销毁了受污染的食品和农作物,但核辐射烟云却迅速蔓延。波兰、芬兰、瑞典、挪威等国家首当其冲,继而随风转向西欧、南欧,几天之内,整个欧洲的大气层都在劫难逃全被污染。
At 2323 hours on 26 April 1986, a grave accident occurred at the graphite reactor near the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Kiev, near the Soviet Union. A reactor exploded and burnt after burning and melting. 31 people were killed in the accident and 299 were admitted to the hospital for treatment. Some 220,000 people received medical examinations due to symptoms of radiation discomfort. After the accident, the Soviet Union moved large numbers of people near the site of the accident and destroyed the contaminated food and crops, but the nuclear smoke cloud spread rapidly. Poland, Finland, Sweden, Norway and other countries bore the brunt of the storm and then shifted to Western and Southern Europe. Within a matter of days, the entire European atmosphere was being polluted.
