ATLV (adult T cell leukemia virus) is a cancer-causing virus that is likely to cause re-infection in nearly 10% of patients due to blood transfusions. This information was published by a professor Kazuo Ichinoseki of Kyushu University’s medical department at the “Open Forum on Cancer Special Research” held in Tokyo on February 4. Most of the subjects in this study were from patients in Kyushu where the infection rates were high. It is generally believed that although there is only one person who is infected, the incidence is only among thousands of people. Japanese Red Cross Blood Research Center attaches great importance to the above situation has begun to prepare for blood donors rigorous check. Professor Dahenei performed 222 cases after 50 days of blood transfusions without any ATLV infection among all the patients receiving blood transfusions at the Kyushu University Hospital since December 1981 during the one-year period
