不丹艺术也许是不丹传统中我们所继承的最动人、最重要的部分。不丹艺术家在他们的绘画、塑像、镶饰品和雕刻中所保留的那种无瑕的自然美感、线条感及色彩感,无不使人赞叹不已。然而,人们必须认识到,在不丹根本没有为表现艺术而艺术的这类东西,也就是不存在为艺术的艺术。如同基本上属宗教性质,主要是表现神灵的印度早期艺术一样,不丹传统认为,塑造神灵形象是引向解脱的虔诚行为,所以,在不丹艺术的进化和发展过程中,它象早期的印度和西藏艺术一样,同样具有萨达那(1)的性质。而且,
Bhutan art may be the most touching and important part of our heritage in Bhutan. The immaculate natural beauty, the sense of line and the sense of color that Bhutanese artists have retained in their paintings, sculptures, ornaments and carvings are all awe-inspiring. However, one must realize that there is no such thing as art in Bhutan for the performance of art, that is, there is no art for art.
