10L207E型柴油机废气集流管漏水,曾经是东风型内燃机车一大惯性故障。1974年铁道部内燃机车“两机”调查组的调查报告里指出:“废气集流管漏水是柴油机造成东风型机车机破事故最多的一项故障,经有关部门统计:全路1972年是81次,1973年是86次,1974年1~9月份是65次”,报告还指出:“厂修后的机车,在第一次架修前,几乎每台柴油机的两侧废气集流管都漏水,个别新造机车也有运用不到一个架修期发生漏水的现象。”因为该故障对运用可靠性威胁大,加之返工修理工作量很大,引起了各机务段强烈的反应。对于大修工厂来说,因为修复变形的废气集流管工作量大,而且要上大刨床刨削弯曲的废气集流管
