[World Nuclear News website reported on June 23, 2015] The government of Canada has decided to exempt Australia’s Paladin Energy from legal restrictions on the Non-Resident Ownership Policy (NROP), which allows it to hold the proposed Michelin uranium mine Majority stake in the project. Paladin owns the Michelin project in Newfoundland and Labrador through its wholly owned subsidiary, Aurora Energy. Paladin began exploration of the site in summer 2012 after the Nunatsiavut parliament canceled a ban on uranium mining on Inuit land in Labrador. Under the Canadian Non-Resident Ownership Policy, non-resident mining companies may own 100% of exploration projects, but must have at least 51% when the project is advanced to commercial production.
