1937年中国荟叶股份有限公司(简称中国茶叶公司)在南京宣告成立。1938年9月20日中国茶叶公司派专员郑鹤春、技士冯绍裘至昆明调查滇省茶叶产销状况。调查发现,凤庆大叶种茶可以制出高档红、绿茶。12月14日中国茶叶公司与云南省经济委员会合作,在昆明召开云南中国茶叶贸易股份有限公司(简称云南中茶公司)成立大会。股本双方对等,人员由公司从中国茶叶公司及各省招募。公司办公地点设在昆明威远街208号。
